چکیده

Abstract. The goal of this project is to determine the absorbed dose of radiation to a patient using 99mTc-MAA as a tracer for a lung scan using the MIRD formula accounting only for the radiation dose contributed by the target organ. The radiation dose for other organs to the target organ is considered negligible as the uptake of 99mTc-MAA from other organs is less than 1%. In addition to calculating the absorbed dose of radiation, the initial dose rate was also calculated by back solving to determine the total mass of the lungs. The radiation dose to the patient by the target organ was calculated to be 269.44 mrads and the initial dose rate was determined to be 156 mrads/hr.

With these codes, basic dose calculations could be made in seconds instead of hours. Another purpose of these codes was to help standardize dose calculations using recognized models, phantoms, and dosimetry techniques. In nuclear medicine community, the aim is to perform calculations to obtain dose estimates for various organs of the body once the kinetics of a radiopharmaceutical agent is esta...

Internal dosimetry for alpha emitters radiopharmaceuticals in biological tissue studied with the FLUKA code

Nuclear medicine clinical practices for neoplasic disease diagnose and treatment are based on the incorporation of α , β and γ radiotracers and radiopharmaceuticals, which might be associated with potential damage. Thus, being necessary accurate dosimetry strategies. In vivo absorbed dose appears as an ideal solution. However, its implementation in clinics does not attain enough reliability. In...

IDAC-Dose 2.1, an internal dosimetry program for diagnostic nuclear medicine based on the ICRP adult reference voxel phantoms

BACKGROUND To date, the estimated radiation-absorbed dose to organs and tissues in patients undergoing diagnostic examinations in nuclear medicine is derived via calculations based on models of the human body and the biokinetic behaviour of the radiopharmaceutical. An internal dosimetry computer program, IDAC-Dose2.1, was developed based on the International Commission on Radiological Protectio...

Hybrid Phantom Applications to Nuclear Medicine

Annually, many people are irradiated for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Assessment of radiation dose and its related risks to patients are important issues in radiation protection dosimetry. The complex mathematical calculations of the absorbed and effective doses are now done with computers. The calculations are performed with the help of anthropomorphic computational models of human bod...

Challenges in Nuclear Medicine Radiation Dosimetry

In spite of considerable progress, much remains to be done in the estimation of absorbed doses to organs and tissues in the body and in the prediction of biological effects from radiopharmaceuticals. In patients undergoing diagnostic procedures, the biokinetics of the radionuclide has to be determined for a number of representative patients. When radiopharmaceuticals are used for therapy, it is...
